Ouagadougou is the capital of Burkina Faso located in the zone. It experiences high temperatures and unpredictable and variable rainfall. Droughts, floods, heatwaves and dust storms are the major climatic hazards. They enhance long term hazard such as desertification, land degradation and migration away from the central area of the country. There is a high level of uncertainty associated with climate projections for Burkina Faso, and W. Africa in general, in particular for changes in precipitation. Climate changes are expected to increase variability and the incidence of extreme weather events, such as droughts, floods and intense rainfall.
It is expected that the performed activities will include hazard scenarios for floods, heat waves and desertification, physical vulnerability of poor quality buildings and lifelines, application of multi hazard and possibly of multi risk models, social and economic vulnerability, improvement of governance and urban planning capability.
